Atlanta homeowners replacing floors face one question more than any other: hardwood or LVP? Both look great in showrooms, but they perform very differently in Georgia homes. At The Hardwood Guys, we install and refinish hardwood floors across Woodstock, Kennesaw, Marietta, Roswell, Alpharetta, and Atlanta — so we help families make this decision every week.
What Is LVP Flooring?
LVP stands for Luxury Vinyl Plank. It's a synthetic flooring product made from multiple layers of PVC and a photographic layer printed to look like wood. It floats over the subfloor without glue or nails, which makes installation fast. The downside: it cannot be sanded or refinished, so when it wears out in 10–20 years, you replace it entirely.

Why Atlanta Homeowners Still Choose Hardwood
Real hardwood can be sanded and refinished multiple times over its lifetime — 50, 80, even 100 years. In the Atlanta real estate market, hardwood floors consistently add resale value that LVP does not. Hardwood also feels warmer underfoot, looks richer in natural light, and can be stained to any color during refinishing. For homes in Marietta, Kennesaw, or Alpharetta where resale value matters, hardwood typically pays for itself.
When Does LVP Make Sense in Atlanta?
LVP is a smart choice for basements, laundry rooms, or bathrooms — areas where moisture makes hardwood impractical. It's also a good budget option for rental properties or flip homes where long-term durability isn't the goal. If you have pets that scratch constantly or young children who spill frequently, LVP's surface hardness is a real advantage. Just know you're trading long-term value for short-term convenience.
