Hardwax Oil Hardwood Floor Finishes

Low-VOC, natural-look hardwax-oil finishes soak into the wood instead of sitting on top of it, so the grain stays visible and scratches can often be spot-repaired. The Hardwood Guys of Atlanta install three premium hardwax-oil brands — pick the one that's right for your floor below.

What Is a Hardwax Oil?

A Natural-Look Alternative to Polyurethane

Hardwax oils are penetrating finishes — blends of natural oils and waxes that soak into the top layer of the wood fiber instead of forming a plastic-like film on top of it, the way polyurethane does. The result is a low-sheen, matte-to-satin look that shows off the wood's natural grain, and in most cases a worn or scratched spot can be refreshed locally instead of sanding the whole room.

The Hardwood Guys install three hardwax-oil systems, each with its own strengths. Explore each brand below, or call 470-826-3581 and we'll help you pick the right one for your project.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a hardwax oil and polyurethane?

A hardwax oil soaks into the top of the wood fiber instead of forming a film on top of it like polyurethane. That gives a lower-sheen, more natural look, and it's often possible to spot-repair a worn area instead of resanding the whole floor.

Which hardwax oil should I choose?

It depends on your priorities: Rubio Monocoat is 0% VOC with the widest color range and easiest spot repair; Pallmann Magic Oil cures the fastest; Bona Craft Oil gives the deepest, most saturated color. Call 470-826-3581 and we'll help you decide.
