Hardwood Floor Installation in Canton
New hardwood in a Canton home starts with one decision: solid or engineered. The subfloor usually makes it for you, and the Canton installs we have filmed show both choices.
Engineered where there is concrete. On one Canton job the main level sat on a concrete subfloor, so we installed factory-finished, live-sawn engineered white oak, and the boards on that job were 5/8 inch thick with a 4 mm wear layer. A wear layer that thick can be sanded and refinished more than once. Another Canton install used 7-inch-wide engineered planks, and that construction gives the stability needed for installs over concrete slabs.
Solid where it fits. On that same white oak job, the second floor got 3/4-inch solid white oak finished on site with Bona Natural Seal and Bona Traffic HD, so it reads as a near match for the engineered floor downstairs. A different Canton home got 7-inch character-grade red oak, stained warm gray and installed with both glue and nails to limit gapping in winter.
New homes and older ones. We have worked in the Great Sky neighborhood, in Riverstone, and in older homes near downtown. In the newer subdivisions along I-575, we can put hardwood into a room that still has builder-grade carpet. We also add to existing floors: one Canton home got new hardwood in the master bedroom and upstairs hallway, blended with the rest of the house, and the stairs were refinished to match. In older Canton homes we plan for surprises under the old floor, such as an earlier patch or flooring nailed over flooring. One Canton job started by tearing out water-damaged, thin builder-grade engineered planks.

No, we work around original trim whenever we can rather than pulling it out. We tape and protect the baseboards during sanding and finishing, and we're careful with the edger near them so we don't chip old woodwork that can't easily be replaced. In some cases we'll add shoe molding afterward to hide the expansion gap, but the trim itself usually stays put.
Yes. On a first refinish there's usually plenty of wood to work with, so it's fairly standard sanding. By the second time around, we're paying closer attention to how much board thickness is left before we hit a nail head or the tongue and groove. We sand lighter and check more carefully as we go, because there's less room for error than there was the first time.
Pretty often, yes. Older Canton homes have usually had some kind of patch job done over the years — a section replaced with mismatched boards, subfloor damage under an old water stain, or flooring nailed right over another layer of flooring. None of that is unusual, and most of it is fixable. We just like to set expectations up front instead of surprising you with it mid-job.
