Woodstock, GA · Serving North Metro Atlanta
Every finish and stain system The Hardwood Guys install, in one place — from durable Bona polyurethanes to low-VOC hardwax oils like Rubio Monocoat and Pallmann Magic Oil.
The finish is what you actually live with every day — it decides the sheen, the color, how the floor feels underfoot, and how much maintenance it needs down the road. We install a full range of premium finishes, from film-forming polyurethanes to penetrating hardwax oils, so the right call is based on your household and your floor, not on what happens to be in stock.
Below is every finish system and stain option we work with. Each one links to a full page with more detail — use this page as the starting point, then dig into whichever finish fits what you're picturing.

Grade and species both affect how a finish looks once it's down. See our full wood grading guide for details on each grade.
A few questions help narrow it down fast. How much foot traffic does the room actually get — a mudroom and a formal dining room have very different needs. Do you want a natural, low-sheen look or a glossier, more traditional finish? Are low-VOC products a priority for your household? And how do you feel about maintenance — are you comfortable with periodic recoats, or do you want a finish that's easy to spot-repair yourself between full services?
We'll walk through all of this at your free on-site estimate, bring physical samples so you're not guessing from a screen, and give you a straight recommendation — not just whatever happens to be easiest for us to install.
Bona's polyurethane systems (Traffic HD, Domo) are built for heavy traffic and are among the toughest film finishes we install. Hardwax oils like Rubio Monocoat and Pallmann Magic Oil trade a little scratch resistance for a more natural look and easier spot repair.
Polyurethane sits on top of the wood as a film, so the whole floor typically needs to be recoated or sanded when it wears. Hardwax oils like Rubio Monocoat and Pallmann Magic Oil penetrate into the wood, so scratches and worn patches can often be spot-repaired without redoing the entire floor.

Yes, that's one of the main reasons homeowners choose them. Rubio Monocoat, Bona Craft Oil, and Pallmann Magic Oil are all low-VOC options compared to traditional oil-based polyurethane.
In most cases, yes. Switching from oil-based polyurethane to a hardwax oil (or the reverse) is a normal part of a full refinish — we'll tell you what's realistic for your specific floor during the on-site visit.
