General Cleaning With Rubio Monocoat Soap
Dust or dry-mop the floor regularly to keep grit from scratching the finish, and vacuum with a hard-floor attachment (no beater bar) for larger areas. For a deeper clean, mix a capful of Rubio Monocoat Soap into a bucket of water and mop with a well-wrung, barely-damp microfiber mop — standing water is the enemy of any wood floor, oiled or not.
- Use Rubio Monocoat Soap diluted in water — it's pH-balanced for oiled floors.
- Never use vinegar, ammonia, oil-based soaps (like Murphy's), or a steam mop — all of them can dull or strip an oil finish.
- Wring the mop out well — damp, not wet.

If the floor starts to look dull or the matte sheen turns uneven in high-traffic paths, Rubio Monocoat Refresh lifts ingrained dirt and restores a uniform look without a full recoat. How often depends on foot traffic — a busy kitchen or entryway needs it more often than a formal dining room.

Spot Repair With Rubio Monocoat Maintenance Oil
This is the real advantage of a Rubio Monocoat finish: because there's no plastic film to wear through, a scuff, scratch, or worn spot can usually be touched up locally with Rubio Monocoat Maintenance Oil, blended in with an abrasive pad, instead of sanding and refinishing the whole room.

- Fit chair and table legs with felt pads to prevent scratching and metal marks.
- Lift heavy furniture instead of dragging it.
- Wipe up spills right away — standing liquid can penetrate the finish.
- Avoid adhesive tape directly on the floor — it can soften and lift the oil layer.
- Clean up pet accidents immediately — urine left too long can stain any floor finish.
- Skip shoes indoors when possible — grit tracked in by shoes is the biggest cause of premature wear.
Several Years Later
Recoating, Not Resanding
A new coat of Rubio Monocoat 2C may be needed several years after the initial application, before the finish wears down to bare wood.
