What Rubio Monocoat Is
Oil Plus 2C: An All-Natural Wood Sealer
Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C is an interior, all-natural wood sealer with no toxic ingredients. Unlike most oils that are laced with solvents, Rubio Monocoat is plant-based, 0% VOC, and has virtually no odor — you can stay in the house while it's applied.
Oil Plus 2C uses a molecular-bonding technology that adheres directly to the top microns of the wood fiber, rather than sitting on top as a film. That's why it covers roughly 400 square feet per liter — far more efficient than most oil- or water-based stains and finishes — and why the wood's natural grain and patina show through instead of disappearing under a plastic-like sheen. We typically follow the base coat with Rubio Monocoat Maintenance Oil for a slightly semi-gloss look.
Real Rubio Monocoat Features & Benefits
This is the corrected, brand-accurate benefits list for Rubio Oil Plus 2C — not the Pallmann Magic Oil spec that used to be published here.
- 0% VOC. Plant-based oil with virtually no odor — safe to apply in an occupied home.
- Single-coat molecular bond. Oil Plus 2C bonds to the top microns of the wood fiber — no build-up layers to wear through.
- ~40 standard colors, blendable for a custom match, from natural neutral tones to deep blacks and cool grays.
- Spot-repairable. Because there's no film layer, a scratch or worn spot can be touched up locally — no need to refinish the whole room.
- ~400 sq ft of coverage per liter — more efficient than most oil- or water-based finishes.
- Reveals natural grain and patina instead of covering it with a plastic-like sheen.
Color Options
Rubio Monocoat is available in approximately 40 standard colors — blendable for a custom match — from natural neutral tones through warm browns, cool grays, whitewash, and deep blacks. Because screen colors never match real wood exactly, we bring physical Rubio Monocoat samples to your free on-site estimate so you can see the finish on your own floor before committing.
Maintenance & Care
Rubio Monocoat floors are cleaned with Rubio Monocoat Soap (never oil soaps, vinegar, ammonia, or steam mops), refreshed periodically with Rubio Monocoat Refresh, and spot-repaired with Rubio Monocoat Maintenance Oil when a scratch or wear pattern shows up — no sanding required. Several years down the line, a fresh coat of Oil Plus 2C can be recoated in about a day with little to no dust, well before the floor ever wears down to bare wood.
