How We Match New Boards to an Existing Stain
Matching new hardwood into an existing floor takes more than picking the same stain name off a can. Wood grade, grain, and age all affect how a stain absorbs, so we always run a test patch on the actual new boards before committing to a full lacing-in job. Provincial is a warm, medium-brown stain that is a common match target on older red oak floors being extended or repaired.
Oil-based polyurethane adds another variable to the match: it ambers as it cures and keeps warming slightly for years afterward, so a newly stained and finished section can look slightly different from the surrounding older floor on day one, then settle into a closer match as the finish ages. We factor that amber shift into the stain choice up front rather than chasing an exact match that will drift anyway.

Repairing and Extending an Existing Floor
A damaged or extended section of hardwood can almost always be repaired without it showing, using the same lacing technique that makes a stain-matched addition possible — new boards, milled to match your existing floor's species, width, and stain, woven into the area and finished to blend with the surrounding wood rather than standing out as a patch.
If the area involves stair treads or risers rather than flat flooring, that is regular work for us too, since stairs take some of the heaviest daily wear in a house and hand-fitting a replacement tread to match an existing stain is a common repair. Financing is available up to $55,000, with interest-free options from $30 a month, subject to approval, for repair and match-in work as well as full refinishing.
